Re: OFF TOPIC: the end for web design firms? |

For larger, professional businesses, it is a mistake to let "my brother in
law" to do it because he has a website he created in frontpage.
The business owner ends up lamenting-
Why does it take so long to load?
Why doesn't this work in Netscape?
What are frames and what do you mean my site is outdated?
How come my font's don't look right?
How do I fix the pop-ups that won't load right anymore?
How do I get into Google?
Blah blah blah...
Most people don't know what goes into making a website and most don't care as
long as they can find the info they need quickly and easily. Which exactly the
point. Web designers know navigation. We know color, we know design, we know
imagery, SEO, JS, cgi, db, etc etc
I think the Wayne is talking about people that want and need professional
work, and professional sites- but
see that you can "create a website online for $60" and wonder why we charge
what we do. (Me- bloated??? Never! ha!)
You get what you pay for. Basic rule of life and economics.
The other problem is that there are certain country economies that designers
can live for a year in their country on a quarter of what we can in the US. So
they charge a quarter what we do- and live well. Meanwhile- rates everywhere
else drop like stones. Are we having fun yet? : )

Hey cdriscoll
In your reply you talk about people offering more than what they can deliver
and soak someone, and the people who think they've found a deal to good to be
true, and let themselves get soaked. You also talk of a global market. All
this it seems, if this is the case, then, means you're joining the rest of the
world like all of us already have, a decade ago. Welcome! to my low earnings,
my unscrupulous buyers, etc. etc... but I must have empathy cause it is quite a
drag. I'd always envied the tech industry for it's high wages in the 90's,
sounds like the ride might be over.

and what the hey,
all those questions have answers in the 50$ books you can buy at any bookstore, and if I can't find the problem in them... VIVA LA MURRAY *TMM*
