Re: MX2004 File Window switches every time I close a

Dreamweaver MX 2004 7.0.1

I also use two monitors and have a similar problem. My file window collapses
automatically whenever I close a file, so I have to keep expanding the file
window.

I am not experiencing the other problems GregP describes, but I share GregP's
sentiments; this is very frustrating and annoying. I understand that this
"feature" makes sense on a one monitor system, but users should be able to
control this behavior.

Thanks.

Good news: Jay London at Macromedia responded to me when I posted on this very
topic this morning. I did as he suggested, and all is right with the world
once again. Hopefully, it'll work for you, too.

Is the Files panel floating by itself or did you float it when it was still
attached to the Assets panel? If I create a new panel group that just has
the Files panel and then float it and expand it to two views, I can't
reproduce the problem where it collapses back to one view. I can reproduce
it if the Assets panel was part of the panel group when I floated it.

By default, the Files and Assets panels are grouped together. Initially, I
pulled the Files panel away from Assets and over to my second monitor -- this
is what Jay means by "floating" -- and that's when my problems began.

To solve it, I clicked on the little patterns of dots below the close window
box at the top right corner of the Files panel. (I[m sure there's a technical
term for this thing, but I don't know what it is.) Scroll to "Group files
with" and choose "New panel group."

Once I did this, my problems were gone. I'm not sure this will solve your
local-files-on-the-left issue, Greg, but it should take care of the panel
collapsing and jumping back to the other monitor.

I told Jay I'd buy him some beers next time he's in Kansas City for this one.
Maybe you guys should join us... if this solution works for you. :)

Yes, this seems to do the trick. Thanks everyone!

box at the top right corner of the Files panel.

Jay, if you're ever in Hawaii, there's some beers waiting over here for you as
well.
