Re: search engine rating

Alt attributes are always important for SE ranking. So are links, page
titles, comments, and most importantly CONTENT. If your page has no machine
readable content, then even alt attributes may not be enough to achieve good
ranking.

Semantic markup is this -

<h1>Here is the most important thing on this page</h1>

as opposed to this -

<strong><em>Here is a weakly important thing on this page</em></strong>

HTML has given you some critically important tags to use - <title>, and <h1,
h2, etc.> - to achieve good ranking you need to use them - I think! 8)

ok, one more question, do you have to submit your site to google for it to be able to find it?

One of the best ways is to get a (relevant) link from an already-spidered
page. If your page is for somebody in the widgets supply business, then a
link from the Widgets Association http://widgetsassociation.invalid/
would be appropriate. (Does the client belong to the Widgets Association?
If not, that might be a member benefit.) If widgets are used on howzits,
then a link from a howzits page suggesting your page as a place to source
widgets would be appropriate.

However, beware link farms - same warning about SE spamming as above.

Yes, but I would go to the dmoz directory first.

Just one small clarification; if other sites that are indexed have links
to your site, search engines will find your site without you submitting
it. However, it's usually faster to submit it yourself.
