Are you using Fireworks for your gif.?

If so you have to select from the optimiz table the drop down arrow for
animated gif.

Then once you save it - export it. Watch the file names, they will...hmm how
to say ... copy themselves sometimes, so you end up exporting and copying over
a completed image.
