one thing if you decide to stick with a flash site (which as someone who used
to build flash websites, i wouldn't recommend). learn the beauty of preloaders
and the art of loading movies within movies. both techniques REALLY made an
improvement to the sites i used to make and helped a lot with loading times and
user boredom/frustration during said loading times. flashkit.com has a lot of
great tutorials if you haven't been there already. also, if you want to
effectively learn flash, pick up a book or two by hillman curtis. he's an
awesome flash designer and he's been around flash since the beginning. i
learned a lot by studying his technique, but i eventually chose to move away
from flash for actual site design and just focus on it for little extras here
and there. learning actionscript is also a must, otherwise your sites are never
going to be as functional as they could be.

hope it helps
