Ok, I kind of have it figured out now, but what do you think he means by
$mailhost defines the name or address of your mail relay.
is that the address for it to be sent to? or the mail server?

if it's a windows server, wouldn't using ASP be a whole bunch easier?
opinion- with commercial hosting at a very low cost, self-hosting a site
isn't worth the possible trouble unless it's a hobby site and setting up and
actively maintaining and patching a server is a skill you want to study and
learn.
