I agree they definetely need a new patch: I saw someone else's post that had
the same file window problems. The last patch was supposed to fix the spacing
added around punctuation, but it didnt on mine. I get those random javascript
errors also, plus others like "can't paste fireworks html" when I try to paste
plain text. there are several other weird things, like my find and replace
results window disappearing or clearing at random. (I often do searches on
2000 + pages. this is really annoying.)
I wouldnt buy any further upgrades from them unless they can fix these. I
guess i'll be sending bug reports.

I bought Dreamweaver MX and I've had so many problems with it I'm terrified of
spending any money on any of the later incarnations. Installed on Windows MX
over Dreamweaver UltraDev 4 -- I wind up removing it and reinstalling it every
few months. It crashes, it loses site information (150 sites hand entered
several times), and it constantly generates JavaScript errors. The following
errors occur simply by running the cursor over "File" or "Commands".
Are there new patches available to fix any of this? I've never been notified
about any beyond the first one, and it just seemed to make things worse so I
uninstalled and reinstalled without the patch. I'm beginning to understand why
the Macromedia stock I bought remains at half what I paid for it. What is wrong
with this company?

While this may be a valid question, I think you also have to ask what is
wrong with your hardware and use of the program too. Obviously, such
problems do not run rampant in the community. Does Dreamweaver have
problems? Of course it does, as does any software. But if everyone posting
here experienced the same level of problems that you describe in your post,
to paraphrase Gertrude Stein, there would be no "here" here.
Diagnosing such problems is very hard without complete information about
your computer and its operating environment. Can you please tell me -
0. What is your version of Dreamweaver? And when you right click on the DW
executable (dreamweaver.exe), then select Properties > Version, what is the
version number you see in the properties panel?
1. What is your OS?
2. What is your AntiVirus?
3. Is your AntiVirus doing realtime protection?
4. What is your Firewall?
5. What other background programs are running?
6. What Dreamweaver extensions do you have installed?
7. Are you *running* DMX from a network shared drive?
8. Where are your 'local' files? Are they on a network shared drive?
9. Have you ever been able to run DMX or is this a recent failure?
10. Does this only seem to happen with certain files/sites?
11. Does recreating the site cache (SITE | Recreate Site Cache) help?
12. Are you using *any* OS-improving utilities like "TweakUI" for example?
13. Are you logging on as an ADMINISTRATOR, or do you have admin
privileges?
