OT: Mac Page Sucker Software

message from Osgood on 16 Jul 2004
Does anyone know of a good webpage sucker progamme for Mac which will
bring down a webpage in order, ie all images in the correct directories?

Ive been trying to download DeepVacuum for the past 3 days but the
hexcat website isnt responding.

I can use Oprea, which does a pretty good job but it doesnt keep all the
elements in their correct directories.

Cheers.

I use one called, coincidentally enough "SiteSucker." It maintains hierarchy
just fine.

I don't recall where I got it, but VersionTracker would be a good place to
check.

Thanks Sonjay.

I'll go to Version Traker and possibly do a google search now I have a name.

Do you know if it has the ability to download just the page you want?

I just inserted a url into the panel and it hauls down just about
everything and anything it can find a link to, lol. Which is pretty darn
good actually but I'mlooking for something a bit more selective.

Sorry, I guess I assumed that was what you wanted. It appears that
Sitesucker has no option to just download one page and its supporting files.

Who'd think something so seemingly easy should turn out to be so difficult?

Osgood replied to Sonjay on 16 Jul 2004
Well it wasnt a total waste of time, I can probably put it to good use
at some stage, so i'll keep it close by.

Yes. All I want is to collect something quickly and in the order that it
was uploaded, from specific pages. I guess i'll just have to stick to
Opera for the time being.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Can you not use Firefox and use the 'download' extension? Works well for
me, but I am on pc...
Sorry if I've missed some of this thread and got the wrong end of the stick
:)

Humm I dont know. Did Mozilla have a similar extention? If so I tried to
load it into that browser on sevral ocassions and it just kept crashing.

I'll give it another go because I honestly cant remember if it was
FireFox or Mozilla.

I know people keep speaking of it very highly. Now where do I find the
extention to download. I've also lost that link lol.

humm. It says its installed this time in Fire Fox. Is there any usage
instructions because I cant see what it actually does. If I go to tools
all I have listed is something call 'Dom Inspector' which doesnt sound
like 'Css Edit' to me, so maybe its not installed. All the Dom Inspector
seems to do is flash red when you select a class or id.

Buggar.

Ok, now I'm confused, :) I thought you wanted the tool for downloading a
full site.
that's spiderzilla and ends up in the Tools Menu, very last option (Download
this site)

Edit CSS was a separate download and I have that under the Miscellaneous
option on the toolbar.

hehehe I' trying my best.

I thought you wanted the tool for downloading a

No. Just a single page for a site.

oh.

Ok i'll look there and see what I can see, thanks.

Osgood replied to :. Nadia .: on 16 Jul 2004
Well I dont have a Miscellaneous option in FireFox. I guess i'll give it
a miss. I seem to be getting along ok without it, just would be nice to
test it out after hearing good things, but if its this bloody difficult
forget it lol.
