OT: :Looking for software to download a site/files |
| message from Warren B. on 15 Jul 2004 |
Hey all,
We just took on a new client and apparently he can't get access to where his
site is hosted - says he called, blah, blah, etc. We need to get his current
site to rebuild in some database functionality. I know using IE you can save
pages and all files, but isn't there software out there that "grabs" a whole
Web site to a local drive on your PC? I remember awhile back seeing a post
about it here, but searching in OE has come up with nothing for me.
Any ideas appreciated.

And yes, I searched Google, but I'm looking for something I've seen posted
here before. I think Murray posted the name of a package.

Check out httpweazel. As with all of them (as far as I know) it won't grab
dynamic pages, but it will download a whole static site pretty damned well.

Eureka! Found one that works well, and it's open source. It's called HTTrack
Website Copier.

If you are using Netscape/Mozilla/Firebird, you might be interested in the
Spiderzilla extension
http://spiderzilla.mozdev.org/
It serves as a front end to HTTrack Website Copier.
Cheers,

Thanks Sam - that's a cool little extension.
Isn't Firebird the only browser to use ; ) Love that thing.

For future reference, there's WebCopier, BlackWidow, QuadSucker - all of
which are shareware, I believe....
