Ms Publisher into DWMX

Hi,
I currently have a site that someone created in Ms Publisher and I need to
clean it up to speed up loading.

As an example the Index page is 1.3Mb and when I clean up the HTML using the
function in dreamweaver, the code goes down to 30K. This included using the
option of "non dreamweaver HTML comments".
The index page is basically one image with an image map. This page has over
5000 lines of code with most of it being references like <!--[if gte mso 9]>
etc

Unfortunately I now find a vertical line that does now not show with an even
thickness and one of the image backgrounds is now not variegated.

I loaded the original index page into FrontPage and "ungrouped" everything
so that I could see where the code was for the image background variegation
and vertical line was. I loaded this into the "cleaned page" in DWMX, but
still no luck.

Can anyone advise if there is a quicker way of doing this instead of trial
and error on my part. My knowledge of Ms Publisher is zero and my knowledge
of FrontPage is limited.

What a terrible task you have ahead of you. It would be best and easiest to
start over!!! Even cleaning up the HTML will leave you with a mess. Begin
with a balnk page!! Don't worry about your knowledge of Publisher or
FrontPage. Use regular tables etc, Css styles sheets etc. So much that
Publisher generates is images... thus the huge file sizes.
Variegation means??
I'll be interested to see what others say. (We can't charge enough for this
sort of task!)

Thanks for the advice, I think I will rewrite the whole site.

"Variegation". I should have said "Gradient" where a background colour
changes from one side to the other.

I have to second E.T. on this. Do yourself a favor and prevent an ulcer and
just take the images and redo the assembly of them in Dreamweaver yourself
and forget about the HTML generated by Publisher. It will be faster, easier
and a lot better to do this.
