Image help needed! Please! |
| message from Sangdao on 18 Jul 2004 |
I have just started using Dreamweaver and had no problem creating/putting an
under construction web page with text.
The problem is with the link to the photos that I put on the page.
The photo images were on my hard drive.
Then I copied them to an image folder under my root file.
From there I used the image icon to transfer the photos to the webpage.
I hit the up-arrow icon and also included dependent files
The photos looked fine on the Dreamweaver page and they also automatically
were on the website file on my hard drive.
However when I checked the website on the internet I saw the text and three
boxes where the photos should be!
I am sure that I have made some simple but fatal mistake but have no idea
what......
I would greatly appreciate any and all advice.
Thank you!
PS As a last resort If I need to delete the site beacuse of some permanent
error how do I do this?

If someone else could look at the web site, perhaps they could suggest
something. Can you post a URL?

I just sent these thoughts to another user asking a similar question so my
apologies in advance to anyone who views both responses.
Most often when I encounter a graphics viewing problem, it is because the
coding is incorrect on my html page (it is not citing the correct path to the
graphic.) Check that first.
Also, relative paths on your host can require special coding. Ask tech support
at your provider EXACTLY how graphics source paths should be written.
Dreamweaver seems to write temporary graphics code to your file while you are
in the process of working on it, and then alters it to proper form on the
upload. Make sure you are using Dreamweaver to FTP the files into the ether.
Just a note: Graphics files get corrupted if they are uploaded in ascii mode.
Make sure you are using binary mode for graphics files. DW should handle this
automatically.
Good luck!
