General Site Set-up Question |
| message from lajutown on 20 Jul 2004 |
I have been asked to develop a few interactive web pages that will need to pull
a small amount of data from an Access database and save info entered by the
user in some sort of variables to be used during the session.
I've viewed some tutorials but am still very cloudy on how to accomplish this.
I know the web server that will host these pages runs JSP. I need to be able
to create and test all of this locally then load it into producion.
Any suggestions on where to start? I know it's a broad question, but I
thought it better to get advice before I spend too much time floundering or
creating things incorretcly.
As always, thanks for your help. This is a great resource.

Hello Lajutown,
You're going to be hard-pressed to find tutorials for Dreamweaver geared
towards JSP...I always hate asking this, but have you tried the F1 help yet?
In the case of JSP, you're likely to find there's no other resource for
Dreamweaver that has so much information. I did a quick search for JSP in
the F1 Help and it yielded quite a few results that may prove helpful to
you. (I haven't checked, but I think Dreamweaver MX 2004 The Complete
Reference has some JSP in it -- at least previous editions have had some.)
For the most part though, you should be able to click the same things and do
basic insert, update and delete record actions using the Server behaviors
provided in Dreamweaver according to non-JSP oriented tutorials.
Try defining a JSP site first, and you should be able to choose a category
called Applications in the Insert bar. This category will contain wizards
for creating recordsets, adding, updating and deleting records and
additional commands. Hopefully that will get you going in the right
direction.
Good luck!
~Angela
