FTP from Site panel???

message from ben h on 19 Jul 2004
How do I manage a 3-stage site development?
I use my local site for new work, upload it to a staging site for
testing, then upload again to a production site.

Between my local and the staging sites I use check-in and check-out,
this is fine and works well most of the time.

However I want to be able to upload directly from my local site to the
production site by ftp. For easy site uploads, where I'm putting up an
entire directory structure for example, i just use ftp externally.
However there are times when I have just updated a bunch of 'random'
pages and these are all selected in the site panel and I want to upload
them to the prod site without having to go into the site definition and
play with the remote site.

Is there any extension out there that will handle this? The main problem
I think will be the management of the files being uploaded to the
correct directory structure.

Ben,
why can't you just a define yet another version of the site definition,
local > production, or staging >
production, etc?

Craig,

Why can't I hand-code all my ASP pages?
Why can't I use osql to manage my SQL Server?
Why can't I scratch my left ear with my right hand?

Your suggestion is exactly what I'm doing now, and it bugs me that I
have to do it. If I was clever enough I would try to write my own
extension / command to do it but I'm not, so I was wondering if someone
had some way to do it. Also, the dreamweaver site management includes a
overhead and features that I don't need or want, and doesn't have some
features I do want that my ftp client does.

And I have no trouble scratching my left ear with my right hand. I do have
a problem scratching my right elbow with my right hand, however....
