Flash Buttons in template editable regions |
| message from Barb S on 17 Jul 2004 |
I have created a template which contains a layer (called nav) which houses a
table with 5 editable regions. In each of these regions is a button. When I
look at the template in the browser within dreamweaver everything looks fine.
But when I create a new html page, based on the template, the flash buttons
don't render in the browser. When I try exactly the same process on a non
template page they render just fine. I have searched high and low and don't
see anything that says templates pre-clude use of flash buttons. Can someone
help me on this?

Thank you so much for your prompt and informative reply. I have a bunch of
students who did this on a project instead of creating their own buttons, and I
did not now the reason. I usually don't use flash buttons, so I was unable to
solve their problem.

Yes. It's best not to use Flash buttons in Template pages (actually, I
wouldn't use them at all). Here's why - they will only work if they are in
the same folder as the containing page. This would mean the Template page
itself. But when you spawn a child page, you cannot save the child page in
the Templates folder (you must not do this), and so the link in the Flash
button will fail. This is not a desirable situation, clearly.
You would not have this problem with ordinary graphic button images.
