DW on server with FP Extension |
| message from ccreamer on 22 Jul 2004 |
I am purchasing DW to maintain our website. Our current website was developed
using FrontPage and uses FP extensions. Our corporate office is redesigning our
website using DW. While I am learning/training with DW, can I access our
current website without corrupting the FP extensions or any of the files. I
edit our current FP website live not offline.
Would I be able to create a "sub-Web" on our current site to use as my
training area for DW?
Thank you for your assistance.

I don't think so - particularly if you are USING the FP extensions on your
current site.
For many reasons, I think this is dangerous.
Ask your IT people. FP extensions often cannot tolerate FTP uploading of
files into an FP site.

I agree with your advice (as usual) but want to note that I've created a
zillion (maybe more) subwebs on a server that has FP extensions installed,
using FTP and administering them with DW. I wouldn't think of touching an FP
site on there with DW, but I've never run into any problems if the
subdirectory was never touched by FP.

I appreciate your insight here. This is a part that I am not personally
experienced with and have not personally tried. I took the conservative
approach.... 8)

I can't blame you for being conservative, doing anything with an FP site
without doing it in FP tends to spell trouble. Hell, doing it with FP can
spell trouble!
