Does DW have a Shopping Cart Creator? |
| message from richp on 15 Jul 2004 |
I want to build a used book site that has maybe 24 or so books to a page and
when you click on the item it takes you to the actual item and description
of the book and a larger photo, et cetera.
Can DW do this? Or do I need to pay an online shopping cart provider monthly
to add this to my site?
I checked out Oscommerce, but it looks a bit over my head at this point.
Thanks-Rich

DW will allow you to use either your own skills to build a shopping cart
(YIKES!), or to integrate a 3rd party cart into your site, but DW has no
native shopping cart ability (other than by using your own scripting
skills).
What scripting models does your host provide?

Hi Rich,
Dreamweaver has the tools you need to build your own shopping cart if you'd
like to go that route. It doesn't however come with a shopping cart
solution. Here is a 3-part article on MM's site that discuss how to build a
very simple cart using ColdFusion:
http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/mx/dreamweaver/articles/build_shopping_cart.html
Even if you're not using ColdFusion, the basic concepts of a cart are there
and the article may help you get a good start.
Should you decide not to build your own, you could either go with a hosted
solution or a shopping cart application. Here are a few shopping cart
solutions and/or extensions known to work well with Dreamweaver:

Good luck to you,
~Angela
