DWMX04, CFML, and PHP Confusion! |
| message from Bruce Cirrinone on 21 Jul 2004 |
Okay... while this might sound totally silly to some, it's an honest
question!
Using DWMX04 and WinXP Pro, I'm teaching myself a little ColdFusion. I've
been having a devil of a time trying to create a log in / user
authentication / access level type of situation, despite having read every
scrap of info I could find and doing tutorials such as jojo's (which I never
could get to function!!!). So I've done some research and found what looks
to b a nifty product called PHP Login Suite Version 2
http://www.dreamweavermxsupport.com/index.php?type=article&pid=50&id=65
[watch the wrap!]. I'm thinking of buying this product - unless someone has
experience with a different product that they would recommend!!!
The potentially silly question is: will PHP play nicely with CF? How do
they interact? If elements of both are on the same page, is the page a CFM
page or a PHP page?
It seems I should be able to create something for myself here, because my
needs aren't really that "advanced!" I'm trying to have a login within the
Development area of my website. Each client would be given one User ID and
Password, and that would allow them to see only the pages that pertain to
them. I would also want an ADMIN kind of ID/PW so that I could sign in and
review everything at once. There doesn't really need to be an ADMIN page
because I could add/delete from the Access database directly! Can any kind
soul point me in a "smart" direction??????
TIA!

Hi,
I actually wrote the PHP login suite so I thought i`d do my best to answer
your query.
Basically, you wouldnt be able to combine Cold Fusion and PHP on a single
page unfortunately, and definately wouldn`t be able to design like this in
Dreamweaver MX as it only allows for a single site in a single language,
either PHP or Cold Fusion.
You could hand code and have some PHP pages and some Cold Fusion pages on
your site, and pass info between pages using URL querystrings, buts its in
no way an ideal solution.
Basically, you really need to stick to either Cold Fusion or PHP. I`m sure
there are tutorials out there on creating a login system in Cold Fusion, but
I couldn`t point you to any as I use PHP, have a browse round on the net, or
hopefully a cold fusion user could point you to the info you require.

Thanks for the prompt answer, Gareth! I'm sure I'll be getting around to
PHP soon -- and that suite looks pretty awesome!
