Dreamweaver automatically closes

message from Barb Smith on 22 Jul 2004
Just yesterday, when I open Dreamweaver, it closes just after the logo
splash screen comes up. Any ideas on why this is happening? I haven't
installed anything new and Fireworks opens fine.

Thanks,
Barb

My advice would be to delete all temp files.

Make sure all programs are closed.

Go to START, RUN, type in %TEMP% look at the file to make sure you did not
put anything in there you wanted to save, and delete all temp files

Do you have flash or fireworks running? It may be a memory issue. Try starting up with no other programs open.

No luck. Any other suggestions?

Programs don't just break - something has changed. Any idea what that might
be?

0. What is your version of Dreamweaver? And when you right click on the DW
executable (dreamweaver.exe), then select Properties > Version, what is the
version number you see in the properties panel?
1. What is your OS?
2. What is your AntiVirus?
3. Is your AntiVirus doing realtime protection?
4. What is your Firewall?
5. What other background programs are running?
6. What Dreamweaver extensions do you have installed?
7. Are you *running* DMX from a network shared drive?
8. Where are your 'local' files? Are they on a network shared drive?
9. Have you ever been able to run DMX or is this a recent failure?
10. Does this only seem to happen with certain files/sites?
11. Does recreating the site cache (SITE | Recreate Site Cache) help?
12. Are you using *any* OS-improving utilities like "TweakUI" for example?
13. Are you logging on as an ADMINISTRATOR, or do you have admin
privileges?

That's a lot of questions! :) Let me see.

1. Windows XP
2. VirusScan McAfee, installed when I got the machine awhile back
3. I think so, don't know how to close it.
4. Company firewall of some sort.
5. a bunch. I tried closing them all down, but still no luck.
6. about 10-12
7. no
8. local files are on c:\
9. recent since yesterday, worked the day before that
10. no, can't even get past the logo splash screen
11. can't get to it
12. no
13. have admin priveleges

I'm going to try to re-install, but can't find the disk right now

Thanks,
Barb

What about #0?

So take your system to the minimum configuration. Disable antivirus,
disconnect from the net. Disable all extensions (really disable them in
Extension Manager). Can you restart? What extensions have you installed
recently?

If that fails to solve the problem, then I recommend you contact Macromedia
directly and use one of your one-on-one support incidents.
